Remote Class website for teachers in lockdown
A system for all kinds of teachers who are teaching class-pass-based classes but can't meet them because you are in quarantine! You can upload video lessons which your students can only watch now - avoiding cheating by sending over the links to each other. The teacher can see who watched the videos and when, and can administer it against their class-passes.

You can simply record your class with your phone, upload to your site, and the students can watch when they can, while you can still keep track who was 'attending'.
Started as a discussion with a friend who was thinking of ways to engage with their students during the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak they came up with the idea of an online system where you can track who is coming to your classes - even if you can't be there in person. What it does?
You can add video lessons and students to the system. Every student can watch the videos you posted, but only once. You can re-enable everyone one-by-one to watch the video again from the admin panel. That's it!You need only a few easy things:
- A Google account to upload your videos to
- A webhosting service that can handle PHP and MySQL - there are plenty of options out there! No need for large storage or big bandwidth, as the heavy lifting is done by Google!
- A way to record video lessons
How to use:
- Once you have your web hosting ready, download the ZIP package by clicking here
- Extract the files and copy them to your website. If you already have a website with content on it, put it in a subfolder, like classes or something like that.
- Go to your browser and open setup.php in the folder you placed it to. For example, if my website is www.bpozcreative.com, and I placed the files in the 'classes' folder, I'd open www.bpozcreative.com/classes/setup.php
- Follow the prompts!
- index.php or the directory itself (e.g. www.bpozcreative.com/classes/) is where students can access your content
- admin.php is where you can administer. Only you have access to that!
- DONE! You are ready to upload videos and add your students!
- I had no opportunity to test this system in different environments. If you have trouble installing the system, message me at peter@bpozcreative.com and I'll try to help!
How to add videos
This part is a bit tricky, unfortunately. You will need to upload the videos to your Google drive and reach it from there.- Open your video in your Google Photos (https://photos.google.com/)
- Click on the Share icon and select Create Link
- Copy the link to the clipboard
- Open this website: https://www.publicalbum.org/blog/embed-google-photos-video
- Scroll down a bit and in the grey area (Insert link to sharing of single image...) paste your share link and click the purple button (Get video code)
- Now you see 3 white text boxes. Copy the second one, which has googleusercontent towards the beginning.
- This is the address you need to paste when you post a video class
